Bangladesh ended Day-3 of the first Test in the two-match series against Pakistan trailing by 132 runs in the first innings, having posted 316 for five at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan on Friday.

Resuming from their overnight score of 27 without loss, Bangladesh lost their first wicket in the fifth over of the third day and the 17th over of the innings as Zakir Hasan was dismissed for 12 runs off 58 balls.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto followed scoring 16 runs off 42 balls, which put Bangladesh in a precarious position. However, Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque steadied the innings with a crucial 94-run partnership. Mominul completed the 19th Test fifty of his career before being dismissed.

The left-handed opener Shadman, playing in his first Test since 2022, also scored a fifty. He was on the verge of his maiden Test century but fell just seven runs short, scoring 93 runs off 183 balls, including 12 fours.

Shakib Al Hasan couldn't stay at the crease for long, getting out after scoring 15 runs off 16 balls. This brought Liton Das to the crease. The wicketkeeper duo of Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton then took control, both ending the day unbeaten with fifties.

Mushfiqur was batting on 55 off 122 balls, marking the 28th half-century of his career as Bangladesh's most dependable batter.

Liton meanwhile, was playing with an aggressive mindset. Before Naseem Shah started his 19th over, Liton was on 32 off 47 balls. He shifted gears during that over to score 18 runs with three fours and one six, reaching the 18th fifty of his Test career. He remained unbeaten on 52 off 58 balls with eight boundaries and one six.

Mushfiqur also became the second Bangladeshi batsman to reach the milestone of 15,000 runs in international cricket. Tamim Iqbal was the first Bangladeshi to achieve this feat in March of last year.

Khurram Shahzad took two wickets for Pakistan, while Naseem Shah, Mohammad Ali and Saim Ayub claimed one wicket each.

Earlier on Wednesday, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first inviting Pakistan to bat. The hosts declared their first innings at 448 runs for six wickets, with brilliant batting performances from Saud Shakeel (141), Mohammad Rizwan (unbeaten 171) and Saim Ayub (56).

For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam claimed two wickets each, with Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz sharing the remaining wickets equally.
