A case was filed against 200-300 leaders and workers of Bangladesh Awami League (AL), including former Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, for their alleged involvement in killing of a university student, Sakib Anjum, during the recent movement of anti-discrimination students on Friday night.
Sakib's father, Mainul Haque filed the case with the Boalia Model police station mentioning names of 42 AL leaders and workers.
In his petition, Mainul Haque mentioned that the AL leaders and workers led by AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and city unit general secretary Dablu Sarker suddenly opened fire and blasted bombs from point blank indiscriminately on the large rally of the students-people in Alupatty area around 1.30 pm on August 5.
Scores of students, including Sakib Anjum, Raihan Ali, Maruf Mourtoza, Ibrahim Ali, Maruf, Hassan and Mehedi Hassan, sustained bullet-wounds in the attack. They were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for treatment, where Sakib Anjum succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
SM Masud Parvez, officer-in-charge of Boalia Model police station, confirmed the matter.
