Road mishaps claim six lives in four districts

Six people have been killed and six others injured in separate road accidents in four districts - Dinajpur, Gopalganj, Chapainawabganj and Faridpur, in three days. 

CHIRIRBANDAR, DINAJPUR: A young man was killed in a road accident in Chirirbandar Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.
The accident took place on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway adjacent to Amtali Bazar under Punotti Union of the upazila at around 7:30 am.

The deceased was identified as Bipu Roy, 24.

According to police and local sources, the Bipu Roy was heading towards Dinajpur from Fulbari in the morning, driving a fertiliser-laden truck. On the way, when he reached near Amtoli Bazar he lost control over the steering of the vehicle and overturned into a roadside ditch at around 7:30 am. He died on the spot after being crushed under the truck.

Being informed, police rushed to the scene and recovered the body.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Chirirbandar Police Station (PS) Helal Uddin confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed with the PS and legal action will be taken in this regard.

GOPALGANJ: A man was killed and five others were injured in a road accident in Sadar Upazila of the district on Friday noon.

The accident took place in Pathalia area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway of the upazila at around 12 pm.

However, the identities of the deceased and the injured could not be known immediately.

According to police sources, the accident occurred when a Khulna-bound microbus collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound passenger bus in Pathalia area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at noon. The driver of the bus died on the spot and five passengers from the both vehicles sustained critical injuries at that time.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene.

The injured were also rescued and taken to Gopalganj General Hospital for treatment, the police sources added.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar PS Md Anisur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are trying to identify the deceased and the injured people.

However, necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.

CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Two workers were killed when a cement-laden truck fell into a roadside ditch in Shibganj Upazila of the district on Friday morning.

The accident took place in Sonapur area under the upazila at around 8 am.

The deceased were identified as Fanu, 45, and Abdur Razzak Khudu, 46, residents of Pirojpur Village under Shahbazpur Union in the upazila.

Shibganj Fire Service Station Manager Kaderi Kibria said that a truck loaded with cement lost control over its steering and fell into a roadside ditch in Sonapur area of the upazila in the morning. Fanu and Khudu, two workers sitting on top of the truck, died on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the bodies from the scene.

Shibganj PS OC Sajjad Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.

BHANGA, FARIDPUR: Two young men were killed and another was injured in a road accident in Bhanga Upazila of the district on Thursday night.

The accident took place at around 8 pm in front of the CCBL Oil Pump on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Suadi Village under Algi Union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Babu Matbar, 24, son of Jhillu Matbar, a resident of Sulna Village under Algi Union in the upazila, and Obaidur Mia, 23, son of Moksed Mia, of Chandra Village under the same upazila.

According to police and local sources, Babu Matbar was returning home from Bhanga Upazila Sadar Bazar along the Dhaka-Khulna highway at night with his two other friends riding on a motorcycle. On the way, an unidentified vehicle hit their motorcycle in front of the CCBL Oil Pump in Suadi area at around 8 pm. At that time, the two friends died on the spot and another was injured. 

Being informed, police recovered the bodies from the scene.
