SADULLAPUR, GAIBANDHA, Aug 24: After being bullet-hit, a remote village youth Masud Mia, 30, in Sadullapur Upazila of the district is in the risk of lameness.

He would run a job at a garments factory in Dhaka's Gazipur District. His family would run on his salary.

But Masud took part in the anti-discrimination movement. And, bullet fired by police hit his left leg. At present, he is bed-ridden in his home.

He is not undergoing treatment due to financial crisis.

Masud is the son of father Saheb Mia and mother Morsheda Begum of Ramnagar (Fakirpara) Village at Kacua Union in Saghata Upazila of Gaibandha.

A visit on Thursday (Aug 22) came to know, as he was hiccupping to run his family of wife and two girl babies, Masud left for Gazipur and managed a job at Apex Holding Limited garments in Chandura Palli Bidyut area. He was a worker at the cutting section of the factory.

He took part in the movement on August 5 in Ansar Academy area, and at that time, he received a bullet in the left leg.

Instantly, he was taken by his friends to local Tanha Diagnostic Centre. After primary treatment with bandage in his wounded leg, he was referred to Mirzapore Kumuddin Medical, where the leg was operated to remove the struck bullet.

Later on, he was admitted to TMSS Medical College on August 6. He underwent  treatment there for 11 days. But due to lack of money, he was released on August 17 although he was not cured.

Masud said, "We are poor. I have already spent Tk 1.75 lakh. I managed this money by selling cow and taking loan. Now my treatment is off. I might be lame."

His father Saheb Mia and mother Morsheda Begum said, "Many political leaders have stood beside the injured in the movement. But nobody came to us. If we don't get government-private assistance, he will be lame."

Kachua Union Chairman Liakat Ali Khandakar said, "On information I went to Masud's home. Local BNP leaders and activists were present there at that time. The family will be assisted."
