Two people including a teenage girl allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in two districts - Kurigram and Laxmipur, in two days.

RAJARHAT, KURIGRAM: A young man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Rajarhat Upazila of the district on Saturday night.

The incident took place in Ghumaru Bhimsitola Bhatipara Village under Umar Majid Union in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Nur Nabi, 20, son of Ishob Ali of the village.

It was known that Nur Nabi hanged himself from a branch of a mango tree near his house at night. Later on, the family members found his hanging body and informed the matter to police

Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members without an autopsy as per their request.

However, the deceased's family members claimed that Nur Nabi had been suffering from mental illness for long.

Officer-in-Charge of Rajarhat Police Station (PS) Mustafizur Rahman, PPM, confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed with the PS in this regard.

KAMALNAGAR, LAXMIPUR: A madrasa girl reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Kamalnagar Upazila of the district on Friday evening.

The deceased was identified as Maimuna Akhter, 15, daughter of Abu Dhabi-expatriate Md Mamun, a resident of Ward No. 4 under Char Lawrence Union in the upazila. She was a ninth grader at Al Arafa Dakhil Madrasa of Kamalnagar.

Local sources said that one Md Omar, son of Md Jakir of the area, often used to harass Maimuna on her way to the madrasa.

Recently, Omar spread nasty rumours about her across the area. Following this, her mother scolded Maimuna.

As a sequel to it, Maimuna hanged herself from the ceiling of her room in the evening while her mother went to Karaitala Bazar leaving her in the house alone.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

The law enforcers have also recovered a suicide note from the scene, which states that Maimuna committed suicide because of Omar.

Kamalnagar PS Inspector (Investigation) Abdul Jalil confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this regard.
