The Public Service Commission has once again postponed the 44th Bangladesh Civil Service oral examinations for 'unavoidable reasons'.

A press release signed by PSC Controller of Examinations Anand Kumar Biswas was issued on the matter on Sunday.

Dates for the postponed oral examinations will be announced at a later time.

The oral examination for the general cadre of the 44th BCS was initially postponed due to the violence during the quota reform movement protests.

The exams were rescheduled for Sept 1 to Sept 19, but have been postponed once more.

According to information from the PSC, 120 examinees were to take their oral examinations on each day from Sept 1-18. On Sept 19, the remaining 76 candidates were to give their examinations.

Amid violence and clashes across the country during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement's 'complete shutdown' programme, a nationwide curfew was imposed from Jul 19. The PSC suspended its different exams on Jul 24.

A total of 11,732 applicants passed the written portion of the 44th BCS exam. They are now waiting to give their oral examinations.

The oral exams started on May 8 and were to end on Jul 31, but were postponed several times amid crises across the country.

The PSC issued the notice for the 44th BCS examination on Nov 30, 2021.

The preliminary exams were held in the eight divisional cities on May 27, 2022.

Of the 350,716 applicants, only 276,760 sat for the exams with nearly 21 percent absent.

A total of 15,708 applicants passed the preliminary exam.

The 44th BCS exam will appoint 1,710 applicants to positions in 25 cadres in the civil service.

It will appoint 449 job seekers to the general cadre, 485 to the technical cadre, 401 as general education teachers to colleges, 20 to general education in teacher training colleges, and 355 to teaching in technical education institutes
