A two-year-old child drowned in a pond at Haziganj upazila in
Chandpur district on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at Gourassor village under the Hartila West union in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Mahadi Hasan, son of Md Shariful Islam, a resident of the area.
It was reported that the child was playing with other children in his house. Suddenly, family members noticed his absence and began searching for him. Later, they found Mahadi floating in the pond.
The child was rescued and taken to Haziganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Dr. Md. Golam Mowla Noyam, Health and Family Planning Officer at Haziganj Upazila Health Complex, stated that the child had died before being brought to the hospital.
