A Chattogram court on Tuesday awarded life-term imprisonment to four persons for raping a 18-year old girl at Jorarganj thana under Mirsarai upazila of the district in 2019.
The judge of the Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 Begum Ferdous Ara passed the judgment convicting Md Nazmul, 24, Md Reaz Hossain, 24, Md Jamshed Alam, 19, and Md Dulal, 22. All hailed from north Morgan, Ward No. 1 under Jorarganj thana of the district, reports BSS.
The court also fined Tk 1 lakh each, in default, to suffer another one-year more rigorous imprisonment.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that Md Nazmul forcibly raped an 18-year old girl Reshma in cooperation with three of his accomplices at the victim's house in absence of her parents at North Morgan, Ward No. 1 under Jorarganj Thana of the district at night on August 2, 2019.
Later, victim's father Md Abul Hashem filed a case against the convicted persons with Jorarganj thana on August 23 regarding the incident.
Police submitted the charge sheet before the court on January 16, 2020, while the court framed charges against the accused on January 31, 2021.
The court after examining eight witnesses, out of 11, delivered the judgment.
Three convicts were present before the court while pronouncing the verdict, the court sources said.
