BNP standing committee member Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed said on Tuesday, "Interim Government should dissolve the  Election Commission headed by Kazi Habibul Awal within 24 hours and hold  dialogue with political parties for the transition to democracy."

Speaking at a discussion in remembrance of  Freedom Fighter Rafiqul Islam Mahatab at National Press Club organized by the Jatiyatabadi Matsyajibi Dal he said, "If you want to restore democracy abolish this Election Commission within 24 hours. They are not the people's election commission. This Election Commission conducted election at night, a day before the polls."
Hafizuddin said, "We want democracy. We don't want to be ruled by a neighboring country. We don't want to be ruled by any other power. We want people's rule."

Addressing the Chief Adviser, he said BNP will assist him. "You take the country on the path of democracy," he said.

He also called upon the Chief Adviser to be tough in foiling counter-revolution of the fallen dictator.

"We want the revolution not to lose its way," he said, adding that those who are in the advisory council should bear the essence of the revolution and foil the counter-revolution.

Hafizuddin said Sheikh Hasina's successors are still in the country, especially in the police and the administration. They helped the illegitimate government of Sheikh Hasina to stay in power for 16 years, he said.

"We want this revolution to come to a successful conclusion. Be tough, and don't think you are weak, he told the Chief Adviser.

The people with you, he said.

He requested the people to resist any e counter revolution efforts against the students-led mass revolution.

Hafeez said, "W will request the Chief Adviser and the Advisory Council to remember that political parties are the stakeholders of any future change. If you want democracy, talk to the political parties."

He requested the Interim Government to hold talks quickly with political parties which had representation in Parliament in the past. Talk to political parties on how to restore democracy and take  their recommendations.

He requested the interim government to announce a roadmap for restoration of democracy as soon as possible.

"Allow people's representatives to take  charge after holding election within a reasonable time. The Interim government should have no objection to announcing the roadmap," he said.
