Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur has urged all not to purchase any assets or properties owned by controversial S Alam Group.

"Refrain from buying S Alam Group assets including lands. This may hamper the central bank's investigations of the controversial conglomerate's transactions. We want to use these assets to protect the interest of depositors. Depositors' money will be paid selling S Alam Group's assets," he said.
The governor said this while speaking to reporters after a meeting at the Bangladesh Bank head office in the city on Wednesday (August 28).

There is an allegation that S Alam Group is trying to sell lands giving power of attorney to others.

Ahsan H Mansur also said, "S Alam is the first person in the history who looted banks in a very planned way. I have no idea whether anyone like him in the world has committed bank robbery in such a planned way."

Earlier, the Bangladesh Bank instructed six S Alam-owned banks to stop any money going out of the accounts in the name of the Chittagong-based business giant, its associates' companies and related persons.

Islami Bank, First Security Islami Bank (FSIBL), Social Islami Bank (SIBL), Union Bank, Global Islami Bank (GIB) and Bangladesh Commerce Bank (BCB) have already passed on the BB instructions to their branches and sub-branches.
