Pregnant woman stabbed to death in Jatrabari

Seema Akter was hacked to death by an unidentified youth at a house at Jatrabari in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.


A seven-month pregnant woman was allegedly hacked to death by an unidentified youth at a house at Jatrabari in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.

The woman was Seema Akter, 22, was the wife of Jewel, a fruit trader at Jatrabari.
Seema died at around 3pm on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Md Nasir, brother of the victim, said Seema and her husband used to live at rented house adjacent to the Shaheed Zia School and College in Jatrabari. The couple has a 4-year-old boy named Abir.

Seema and her son were at her father's house during that time. Quoting the victim, Nasir said a youth entered their house and attacked Seema with a sharp knife at around 9pm on Tuesday. Seema requested the assassin not to kill her as she was pregnant but the youth did not listen to her. 

The youth left the spot leaving Seema critically injured, he added.

Nasir said Seema could not recognised the youth.

Relatives took her to the hospital where she gave birth to a baby boy after surgery. As there was injury mark in the chest of the newborn, he was admitted to ICU. But the baby died later.  

Seema also succumbed to her injuries at around 3pm on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Md Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the DMCH, said relatives of pregnant woman brought her at the hospital in critical condition. She died on Wednesday afternoon.  The bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue.
