The body of 32-year-old Rahanuma Sarah, who worked as the newsroom editor at private television channel GTV, has been recovered from Hatirjheel Lake on Tuesday.

Sarah jumped into the lake, her husband said, citing witnesses. "It's better to die than being a member of the living dead," she had previously written on her Facebook page. She was suffering from clinical depression, her family and friends said.

Some people rescued Sarah and took her to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in an unconscious state around 1:45am on Wednesday. The doctor on duty at the emergency department performed the necessary tests and declared her dead.

Assistant Sub Inspector Md Masud Mia of the DMCH Police Outpost confirmed the information and said her body was kept at the DMCH morgue.

Sarah is the daughter of Bakhtiari Shikdar and a native of Islambagh Krishnapur village in Noakhali's Sonaimuri. Her husband is Sayed Shuvro. She lived with her husband at a rented house in Dhaka's Kalyanpur.

Following a romantic relationship, they tied the knot seven years ago without informing their families, said Shuvro. On Tuesday, Sarah went to the office and did not return home that night.

Instead, she sent some money for house rent through another person around 10:30pm.
