Body of a student of Eden Mohila College has been recovered by police.
The dead was Shaila Akter, a leader of Eden College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), was recovered from a sub-let flat at Lalbagh in the capital on Wednesday night.
The postmortem of Shaila's body was conducted at the Dhaka Medical College morgue on Thursday morning, said Lalbagh Police Station's sub-inspector Ajay Krishna Pal.
Shaila hailed from village Dhankhali under Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali district.
It is learnt that Shaila was a second year student of the 2020-21 session of Physics Department at Eden College. She was a leader of Eden College BCL.
She was also the vice-president of Kalapara Upazila Chhatra League.
Several college sources confirmed the matter to reporters. However, the exact cause of Shaila's death could not be known.
Sub-inspector Ajay Krishna Pal mentioned in the first information report that Shaila used to live in a sub-let room on the fifth floor of House No. 167/2/A at Rasulbagh in Lalbagh. She went her room from outside at about 11:00pm on August 27. Her friend Khushbu Akter went to the room at 10:00am on the following day and saw Shaila was hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf around her neck. Black marks were also seen on the victim's neck. It is primarily being assumed that she had comitted suicide. However, police are investigating the matter in details.
According to police, the causes of death would be known after receiving the postmortem report.
