Three youths killed in three districts

Three young men were killed in separate incidents in three districts - Sunamganj, Gazipur and Magura, on Wednesday and Thursday. 

DERAI, SUNAMGANJ: A man was killed and at least 40 others were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over a land dispute in Derai Upazila of the district on Thursday. 

The incident took place in Rafinagar and Mirzapur areas under the upazila at noon.
 
The identities of the deceased and injured people could not be known immediately.

According to police and local sources, there was a dispute over land between Rejuan, former chairman of Rafinagar Union Parishad (UP) in Derai Upazila, and Jahangir, former chairman of Mirzapur UP. Following that dispute, people of two villages locked into a clash on Thursday noon. One person was killed on the spot and at least 40 others from the both sides were injured in the clash.  

Being informed, police reached the scene and brought the situation under control.
Later on, police recovered the body of the deceased.

Officer-in-Charge of Derai Police Station (PS) Ikhtiyar Uddin confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are trying to identify the deceased and additional police have been deployed at the village to avert further collision.

GAZIPUR: A youth was hacked to death by his associates over sharing stolen goods in Tongi Upazila early Thursday.
The incident took place in Keranir Teck area under Tongi West PS at around 3 am.

The deceased was identified as Selim Mia, 30, son of Billal Hossain, hailed from Shibpur Upazila in Narsingdi District.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Tongi West PS Shafayat Osman said that Selim was taken outside his house by his associates at early hours of Thursday. During an altercation over the sharing of stolen goods then, Selim was struck on the head with a machete, which left him critically injured.

Locals rescued him and took to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body.

However, the law enforcers are trying to arrest those involved in the killing and legal action would be taken in this regard, the SI added.

MAGURA: One more injured of the anti-discrimination student movement of the district died at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Wednesday evening. 

Deceased Sohan Shah, 27, son of Shah Sekander Ali, hailed from Chandikhali Village in Sreepur Upazila of the district. He used to live in a mess at Rampura Hajipara DIT Road and worked at a garment factory in Rampura area in Dhaka.

Police sources said that a garment worker by profession Sohan succumbed to his injuries at around 7:30 pm while undergoing treatment at the CMH Hospital.

Dhaka Cantonment PS SI Muhammad Shahjahan said that after receiving the information, police retrieved the body and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Earlier, Sohan received serious bullet injuries during a clash between the police and protesters of the anti-discrimination student movement in Rampura area of Dhaka on July 19 last.
