GAIBANDHA, Aug 31: A man and his wife were electrocuted in Sadar Upazila of the district on Friday.
The incident took place in Ward No. 5 Balaata Village under Laxmipur Union of the upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Kashed Ali, 45, and his wife Alima Begum, residents of the area.
Quoting locals and the deceased's family members, Laxmipur Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Abul Kalam Azad said that Kased Ali along with his wife Alema Begum had been working on a rice field next to their house since the morning.
Due to the intense heat in the afternoon, Kased Ali went to a tin-shed room near the field to take some rest. However, the electric wires in the shed were exposed and touching the tin structure.
At that time, he came in contact with the electric wire. Seeing this, his wife Alema Begum came forward to save her husband, and also got electrocuted.
Sensing the matter, the family members disconnected the power supply and found the couple dead at the scene.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies and handed those over to the deceased's family members for burial as there was no complaint made by them in this regard, the UP chairman added.
Inspector (Investigation) of Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Sirajul Islam confirmed the incident.
