A total of 11 people including three women and a teenage girl have been found dead in separate incidents in eight districts - Rajbari, Feni, Cumilla, Sunamganj, Natore, Barguna, Manikganj and Kushtia, in four days.
RAJBARI: Police recovered the throat-slit body of a man in Goalanda Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.
The identity of the deceased, aged about 35, could not be known immediately.
According to local sources, pedestrians discovered the body beside a road in Katakhali Bottola area under Debogram Union at around 8 am and informed the matter to police.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Rajbari Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Goalanda Police Station (PS) Pranbandhu Chandra Biswas confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter and trying to identify the deceased.
FENI: Four individuals including two women were found dead in the district within two days.
Among the deceased, the identity of one woman has been confirmed, while the identities of another woman and two men could not be ascertained immediately. Police suspect they might have drowned in floodwater.
The recoveries were made on Friday and Thursday in various locations within Sadar, Fulgazi and Sonagazi upazilas of the district.
According to local sources, an unidentified elderly woman's body, aged about 70, was found in a river in Lemua area of Feni Sadar Upazila on Friday afternoon. Later on, locals informed the matter to police. Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Feni General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Earlier, on Thursday, the body of a 23-year-old woman, named Rojob Bibi, was recovered from the western side of Killar Dighi in Amjadhat area of Fulgazi Upazila. She was the daughter of Nurul Islam Nur Mia of Uttar Dharmapur Village in the same upazila. Her burial has been completed in the family graveyard.
Police also recovered two more bodies from the Muhuri Project area and Char Abdullah under Sonagazi Upazila in the afternoon and evening of the same day. One was estimated to be around 40-year-old, while the other was 30-year-old, and both wearing lungis. Due to the lack of identification, one of the bodies was buried in Char Sahapur area of the upazila after a funeral, and the other, which was partially decomposed, was buried by locals in Adarshagram of Chardarbesh Union.
Regarding the incident, Fulgazi PS OC Nizam Uddin said that the family members have taken the woman's body after recovery, suspecting that she also drowned in floodwater.
Meanwhile, Sonagazi Model PS OC Sudip Roy confirmed the recovery of the two bodies and stated that they likely drowned in floodwater. The partially decomposed bodies were buried after being recovered by the police.
CUMILLA: Police recovered the beheaded body of a teenage girl from her residence in Muradnagar Upazila of the district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Rabeya Akter, 15, daughter of Zakir Hossain, a resident of Yusufnagar Village under Muradnagar Sadar Union in the upazila.
Muradnagar PS OC Prabhas Chandra Dhar confirmed the recovery.
According to the deceased's father, Rabeya went to sleep after having dinner on Thursday night. On Friday morning, she was found slaughtered with his hands and feet tied in her room.
OC Prabhas Chandra Dhar said that being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Cumilla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Police assumed that the incident might have taken place over a dispute relating to a romantic affair.
However, the law enforcers are investigating the matter and the actual reason behind the killing would be known after investigation, the OC added.
SUNAMGANJ: Police recovered the hanging body of a young man from Madhyanagar Upazila in the district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Sheikh Shahid, 21, a resident of Harinakandi Village under the upazila.
His hanging body was recovered from the village at around 11 am on Friday.
Quoting the deceased's family members, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Madhyanagar PS Bikash Sarkar said that Sheikh Shahid had been suffering from mental disorders for a long time. He went to his bedroom to sleep on Thursday night. Later on, his body was found hanging from a branch of a tree next to the house at early hours of Friday.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and handed it over to the deceased's family members without an autopsy as no complaint was lodged from them in this regard.
Police assumed that he might have committed suicide by hanging himself due to his mental illness, the SI added.
BAGATIPARA, NATORE: Police recovered the body of an elderly man from the Baral River in Bagatipara Upazila of the district on Friday morning after two days of his missing.
The deceased was identified as Motaleb Hossain, 67, a resident of Salaingar Purbapara Village under Panka Union in the upazila.
It was known that Motaleb Hossain went out of the house to go to Banshbaria Bazar on Wednesday evening, but did not return. The family members searched him in various places, but could not locate him anywhere. They then lodged a general diary with Bagatipara Model PS on Thursday night.
Later on, locals spotted his body on the bank of the Baral River at around 9 pm on Friday and informed the matter to police.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene.
The deceased's family members assumed that Motaleb Hossain might have died of heart failure.
Bagatipara Model PS OC Nannu Khan confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken after investigation.
AMTALI, BARGUNA: Police recovered the body of a man from Amtali Upazila of the district on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Jakir Akan, son of Abdul Goni Akan, a resident of Boithakata Village under Chaora Union in the upazila.
It was known that Jakir Akan got married with Sonia Begum, daughter of Anwar Bepari of Pujakhola Village in the upazila. Sonia was his third wife. On Monday last, he went to visit Sonia's father's house.
On Thursday night, he went out of the house after having dinner, but did not return, said Sonia Begum.
Later on, locals spotted his body lying on a cropland in the area on Friday morning and informed the matter to Anwar Bepary.
The members of his in-law's family then took him to Amtali Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Barguna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The deceased's son Rakib Akan alleged that his stepmother Sonia Begum along with her family members killed Jakir Akan. He demanded justice over the killing.
Amtali PS OC Kazi Shakhawat Hossain Topu confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this connection and the actual reason behind his death would be known after getting the autopsy report.
MANIKGANJ: Police recovered the body of a young housewife from her in-law's house in Harirampur Upazila of the district on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Smriti Sarkar, 20, wife of Sanjit Saha.
Police, however, detained the deceased's husband and her mother-in-law in this connection as Smriti's parents alleged the incident as a murder.
According to the deceased's family members, the mother of two children Smriti was got married with Sanjit Saha three years back. Since their marriage, the couple used to fight often over several family disputes. On Thursday evening, the couple also had a fight over the same issue.
Later on, Smriti's body was recovered from under her bed at around 6:30 pm on Thursday, an hour after her husband's leaving with his rickshaw.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene at around 9 pm and sent it to Colonel Maleque Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Confirming the incident, Harirampur PS OC Md Mojibur Rahman said that the body has an injury mark on her nose and an unnatural death case was filed in this regard.
Police have detained two suspects for questioning and legal actions would be taken in this connection, the OC added.
DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: Police recovered the body of a youth from the toilet of NB Auto Bricks Company of Nuruzzaman Biswas Group in Daulatpur Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Roni Ahmed, 25, son of Ahad Driver, a resident of Sunaikundi Laskarpara area under Hogalbaria Union of the upazila. He used to work in that factory located in Allardargah area.
Police and local sources said that Roni's body was found in a toilet of the factory at noon.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
It was assumed that he might have committed suicide as Roni was caught by the security guard along with some stolen metals at around 2 pm.
Daulatpur PS OC Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
