Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested Rohingya drug smuggler Nabi Hossain and his brother from Ukhiya upazila in Cox's Bazar district on Saturday night.
The arrestes men are Nabi Hossain, 47, and his brother Syed Hossain alias Bulu, 45, residetnts of Rohingya camp in Ukhiya.
Mohammad Iqbal, commanding officer of the 14-APBn, confirmed the matter on Saturday night.
The police also seized two foreign pistols and eight bullets from their possession.
Mohammad Iqbal said: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of APBn conducted a drive at a hideout in B-block of 8-West Rohingya camp in Ukhiya early Saturday night. Sensing the presence of APBn, four or five people tried to flee tactically. Police managed to arrest two people, including Nabi Hossain, but the others managed to escape."
The commanding officer further said: "Nabi Hossain is the head of Myanmar's armed terrorist organization Nabi Hossain Group. He is the mastermind of various drug smuggling syndicates, including yaba, through the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
“The group is also active in the Rohingya camps. Members of the group are accused of being involved in various crimes, including murder, kidnapping and drug trafficking. There are several cases against Nabi Hossain with Ukhiya police station based on these allegations.”
A case has been filed against the arrested individuals under relevant laws at Ukhiya police station, he added.
