The Interim Government has cancelled the contractual appointment of foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen before the end of his contract.

His existing contract with the government was scheduled to expire in December next.
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain confirmed it to mass media on Sunday (September 1).

Diplomatic sources said career diplomat Masud Bin Momen went on retirement in November 2022. But, the previous Sheikh Hasina government appointed his as foreign secretary on contractual basis for two years. Subsequently, he played a strict role against the all-out movement of students and people. He tried to deny the incidents of shooting on the demonstrators from helicopters. Because of it, rumours of his departure after the August 5 political changeover had surfaced. He also started to take preparation for it mentally. Subsequently, he had leave the Foreign Ministry on Sunday (September 1).

A Foreign Ministry official said Masud Bin Momen has already resigned. The legal process of his departure will be completed at night. The foreign secretary was asked to leave following the green signal from policymakers. His post retirement leave (PRL) will start from Monday (September 2).
