Police have arrested a man from Gaibandha city's Bus Terminal area in a case filed over the attack on physicians at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The arrest was made early Monday, superintendent of Gaibandha police Mosharraf Hossain confirmed.
He said, "We arrested Sanjay Pal in connection with the attack incident. Legal steps would be taken against him. A case was also filed in this connection."
A tense situation was prevailing whole day on Sunday centering the attack on doctors at DMCH. The doctors of all public and private hospitals across the country went on a complete shutdown, protesting attack on physicians and vandalism carried out by relatives of a patient at the emergency department of DMCH.
A case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station on Sunday over the attack on the doctors at DMCH.
Amir Hossain, an office assistant of the hospital, filed the cases accusing four named, including BUBT teacher and three students, and 50 unnamed people.
Later at about 7:45PM, the protesting doctors withdrew their strike getting an ensurence from the health adviser to fulfil their four-point demands.
Earlier, four people involved in the attack were detained and handed over to army personnel, said DMCH police outpost in-charge Bachchu Miah.
According to the case statement, Shahriar Arnab, a teacher of the Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT), has been named as the prime accused. The other accused are -- Paljay, Sahab Turza, and Saimi Naz Shayan, who identified them as BUBT student.
On August 30, Ahsanul Islam Dipto, 24, a civil engineering student at the BUBT, was severely injured in a motorcycle accident on Dhaka-Mymensingh Road in the Cantonment area.
Passersby brought him to DMCH, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday (August 31) morning. Then some students assaulted three physicians at DMCH.
