Doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) have announced that the outdoor services at the hospital will resume on Tuesday on a limited scale from 10AM to 1PMpm.

The emergency department, which was resumed on Sunday evening, will remain open and will operate without interruption.

Abdul Ahad, resident surgeon of Department of Neurosurgery at DMCH, made the announcement at a press conference held in front of the hospital's administrative building on Monday afternoon.
Indoor services and routine work will continue on a limited scale until further notice, Dr Ahad said, adding that private chamber consultations will also remain available to minimise disruption to patient care.

During the press conference, he disclosed their new protest programme to press home demands -- immediate arrest of remaining suspects involved in the recent attacks on physicians and introducing specialised ‘health police force’ under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), who will ensure security of the doctors at all hospitals.

As part of their fresh programme, the protesting doctors will stage sit-ins at their respective workplaces from 8AM to 10PM everyday from Tuesday until their demands are met, Abdul Ahad told newsmen.

After the sit-ins, they would start the day’s outdoor services at 10AM and would continue serving till 1PM six days a week.

Abdul Ahad strongly condemned the recent attacks on doctors, labeling them as part of a broader conspiracy by allies of the previous fascist regime aimed at destabilizing the nation.

He urged the government to deploy security forces at all medical institutions, warning that without such measures, further attacks could occur.

On Monday, one of the four named accused were arrested in the case filed with Shahbagh Police Station. Fifty other unnamed individuals have been implicated in the case.

Earlier, on Sunday, doctors at all hospitals across the country announced a complete shutdown for an indefinite period, protesting attack on physicians and vandalism carried out by relatives of a patient at the emergency department of DMCH.

Relatives of a patient alleged that due to the negligence of the doctors, Ahsanul Islam Dipto, 24, a civil engineering student at the BUBT, who was severely injured in a motorcycle accident on Dhaka-Mymensingh Road in the Cantonment area, died on Saturday morning.
