The clash took place at Paschimpara of Mazhardia village under Mazhardia union of the upazila at around 8:30 am on Monday (September 2).
During the clash, the house of an upazila Awami League leader and his son was attacked and extensively vandalized and looted. On information, army and police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Witnesses said for a long time there was a dispute between the vice president of Saltha Upazila Awami League Habibur Rahman alias Hamid Matubbar and another vice president of Upazila Awami League Shahiduzzaman alias Shahid, a resident of Mazhardia village, over the spread of local dominance. Due to this dispute, the supporters of both sides clashed at times.

Following this, in the morning, an argument took place between the supporters of both groups. Then 50-60 people led by Kabir Molla, UP member of ward number-2 of Mazhardia, a supporter of Awami League leader Shahiduzzaman, attacked and looted the house of Awami League leader Habibur Rahman and his son Faruk Matubbar, the former vice president of Upazila Swecchhasebak League, with indigenous weapons. At that time, a clash broke out between the two sides. At least 11 people were injured.
