Bangladesh are just 143 runs away from making history by sweeping Pakistan in their own backyard having posted 42 runs without loss in their second innings of the second Test of two-match series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Monday.

Pakistan resumed their innings from their overnight score of nine for two. Unbeaten batter Saim Ayub started from his previous day's score of six, joined by skipper Shan Masood. They began batting aggressively but couldn't sustain their momentum for long as Ayub was dismissed by Taskin Ahmed after scoring 20 runs, while Nahid Rana came into attacks in the 17th over and picked up the wickets of Masood, Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel in three consecutive overs. Pakistan's captain Masood scored 28 runs, Babar 11 and Shakeel managed just two runs. Nahid could have also dismissed Mohammad Rizwan during that spell if Shadman Islam hadn't dropped a catch at slip. Pakistan therefore, went for lunch with 117 for six.

Rizwan capitalized on his reprieve scoring 43 runs and building a crucial 55-run partnership with Salman Ali Agha, who remained unbeaten on 47 for Pakistan. Among the tailenders, Mohammad Ali couldn't get off the mark, Abrar Ahmed managed two runs and Mir Hamza added four as Pakistan were all out for 172 runs.

Bangladesh's pacers took all 10 wickets in an innings for the first time in Test cricket. Hasan Mahmud hauled maiden fifer in his career conceding just 43 runs, while Nahid Rana took four wickets for 44 runs marking his best bowling figures. Taskin Ahmed took the remaining wicket.

As Pakistan had a 12-run lead from their first innings, Bangladesh was set a target of 185 runs to win the match. Considering the overcast conditions, the visiting openers started aggressively to scoring 42 runs in just seven overs at a run rate of 6.00. Zakir Hasan remained unbeaten on 31 runs off 23 balls, while Shadman Islam was on nine off 19 as play was halted for the day.

The only obstacle on the day was the weather. After the tea break, only one over was bowled before play was called off almost two hours before the scheduled end time due to bad light and rain. A total of 50 overs were played on Monday.

The bad news for Bangladesh is that rain is also forecasted for Tuesday. There may be clouds from the start of the day, potentially hindering Bangladesh's chance of winning the match. However, even if the match ends in a draw, Bangladesh will win the series having beaten Pakistan by 10 wickets in the first match.

Earlier, Day 1 of the match was washed out, while Bangladesh won the toss on Day 2 and elected to field first. The visitors bowled out the hosts for 274 runs in the first innings, with Saim Ayub scoring 58, Shan Masood 57 and Salman Ali Agha 54.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz took five wickets for 61 runs, while Taskin claimed three for 57. Nahid Rana and Shakib Al Hasan shared the remaining wickets.

In reply, Bangladesh posted 262 runs in their first innings despite losing their top six batters for just 26 runs. But thanks to the brilliant batting of Liton Das, who scored 138 runs and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who added 78.

Khurram Shahzad claimed six wickets for Pakistan, while Mir Hamza and Salman Agha shared the remaining wickets equally.
