JHENIDAH, Sept 2: A court in the district on Sunday sentenced four individuals to life-term imprisonment for killing a van-puller in the district town in 2010.
Jhenidah District and Sessions Judge Court Judge SM Saiful Islam delivered the verdict in the afternoon.
The condemned convicts are: Ranjit Biswas, Akhtar Hossain, Manjur Alam, and Basir Uddin. All of them are residents of Arappur area in the district town.
According to the prosecution, Rezaul Sheikh, a van-puller from Muraridah Village in Sadar Upazila of the district, went missing on the night of February 10 in 2010 after going out of the house receiving a phone call.
His throat-slit body was found behind Jhenidah Cadet College in the town the next morning.
Later on, deceased Rezaul's wife Anzira Khatun filed a murder case with Jhenidah Sadar Police Station on February 12 in 2010, naming three suspects and several unidentified individuals as accused.
After investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court against four individuals on December 25, 2014.
Following this, the court found the four guilty and sentenced them to life-term imprisonment after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
