Bangladesh Police is committed to providing overall security to the people, including the minority communities, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam said on Monday.

The IGP made the remark when the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement met with him at the police headquarters on Monday afternoon.

During the meeting, the student leaders complained that miscreants have vandalized the homes of the minority community and attacked them in some bordering areas such as Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Jashore and some other places.

The IGP told them the police headquarters has already given necessary instructions to the concerned units to investigate every incident of attack on minorities with utmost importance.

"Proper directions have also been given to arrest the criminals involved in such heinous activities and take necessary legal action and ensure the safety of the victims and their families," added the IGP.

At that time, he sought the cooperation of individuals and people from different walks of life associated with the anti-discrimination student movement for the security of the lives and property of the people, including the minority communities.

The IGP urged everyone to immediately file a complaint at the concerned police station if any such untoward incident occurs anywhere.    —UNB
