CHATTOGRAM, Sept 2: The central committee of BNP has dissolved the convening committee of Chattogram District South Unit on Sunday. The removal of 14 luxury cars belonging to the S Alam group was a factor in the dissolution of the committee that was established four years and ten months prior, according to BNP sources.
The central committee also has taken punitive actions against three leaders of the dissolved committee.
The central committee suspended the all posts including the primary membership of the party of Chattogram District BNP South unit Convener Abu Sufian, Chattogram District BNP South unit Joint Convener Enamul Haque Enam, and member of the committee S M Mamun Mia.
Senior Joint Secretary General of the Party Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvy issued two notices on Sunday dissolving the unit and the suspension order of three leaders.
Earlier on Saturday night the Party issued the show cause to Chattogram District BNP South unit Convener Abu Sufian, Joint Convener Enamul Haque Enam and Karnaphuli Thana BNP Convener SM Mamun Mia.
They had submitted the reply of show cause notice on Sunday at the central office of the party, party sources said.
Meanwhile, the convening committee of the Chattogram district South unit of BNP had been constituted on October 2 in 2019 last.
Meanwhile, a total of 14 luxury cars owned by the business conglomerate S Alam Group, have been allegedly removed from a warehouse situated at Karnaphuli Thana of Chattogram on August 29 last.
The vehicles include; BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche and Range Rover. Those luxury cars owned by the S Alam Group's chairman and his relatives. Those were removed from a warehouse, owned by Meer Group in the city's Kalurghat Industrial Area, that night (29 August).
A video has gone viral where Chattogram District BNP South unit Joint Convener Enamul Haque Enam, Patiya upazila unit Jubo Dal Member Secretary Ahidul Alam Chowdhury Piblu and Chattogram District South unit Chhatra Dal Joint Convener Sheikh Md Hossain Nayan were seen supervising the event.
Chattogram District BNP South unit Convener Abu Sufian's chauffeur Mansoor was also identified among them.
The incident follows Bangladesh Bank governor's directive to the public that no one should buy properties that do not have bank mortgages from S Alam Group as depositors would be refunded by banks after selling those.
Following the viral of the video on the social media, three BNP leaders in Chattogram have been served a show cause notice over supervising the relocation of 14 luxury cars owned by S Alam Group late at night on 29 August.
Meanwhile, a total of ten vehicles had been returned to the local administrations on Sunday. But the administration did not know who had returned the vehicles to S Alam godown.
