Nine people murdered in nine districts

Nine people including a teenage girl have been murdered in separate incidents in nine districts - Habiganj, Jamalpur, Narsingdi, Naogaon, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Bagerhat, Bogura and Noakhali, in three days. 
HABIGANJ: A man was killed and at least 10 people were injured in a clash between two groups due to a dispute over shop arrears on Tuesday in the Bahubal Upazila. 
The victim Amir Hossain, 70, was a resident of Rajapur Kaitgaon Village under the upazila.
He died on Tuesday afternoon while undergoing treatment at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The clash took place between the people of Rajapur Kaitgaon Village of Sadar Union of the upazila on Monday night.
Bahubal Model Police Station (PS) SI Abu Moksed said that businessman Jalil Mia owed some money to Tofazzal Mia of Rajapur Kaitgaon village. Following this, the two were locked into an argument at night. At one stage, two groups of people clashed with indigenous weapons.
Victim Amir Hossain from Tofazzal's group was taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital at night with serious injuries. He later died on Tuesday afternoon while undergoing treatment there, the SI added.
JAMALPUR: A local leader of Awami League (AL), who was reportedly hacked by his rivals over a previous enmity in Sadar Upazila of the district on Saturday, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Ahsan Ali, a member of Lakshmirchar Union Parishad (UP) and a leader of the AL in the upazila.
According to local sources, Ahsan had been elected three times as the member of Ward No. 3 of Lakshmirchar UP and had an ongoing dispute with his rivals.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jamalpur Sadar PS Muhammad Mohabbat Kabir said that a group of miscreants attacked on Ahsan in Rayerchar Mollapara area on Saturday afternoon while he was returning home from a council meeting, and hacked him indiscriminately, leaving the UP member critically injured.
Severely injured Ahsan was then rescued by locals and taken to a hospital, where the on-duty doctor referred him to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated further.
Later on, he succumbed to his injuries at early hours of Sunday after being taken to the DMCH.
A murder case was filed with Jamalpur Sadar PS and legal action would be taken in connection with the incident, the OC added.
NARSINGDI: A local leader of Matsyajibi League was hacked to death by miscreants in Sadar Upazila of the district early Sunday.
The incident took place in Basail Sahi Eidgah field area of the upazila at around 12 am.
The deceased was identified as Lizon Mollah, 30, son of Alamgir Mollah, a resident of Basail area in the upazila. He was an executive member of the district unit of Matsyajibi League.
It was known that Lizon Mollah was returning home from Renesa Trauma Centre at midnight. When he arrived near Sahi Eidgah field, a group of miscreants, who had been waiting there, stopped Lizon Mollah's motorcycle and hacked him indiscriminately. At that time, the miscreants also set fire to Lizon's motorcycle and fled away leaving him critically injured.
Locals then rescued Lizon and took him to a hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body of the deceased.
Narsingdi Model PS OC Tanvir Ahmed said, "Lizon Mollah was hacked to death by miscreants. However, it is not yet clear who the culprits are, as the investigation is going go." 
However, there are 16 cases filed against Lizon with the Sadar PS including murder and extortion, the OC added.
SAPAHAR, NAOGAON: A leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami died while undergoing treatment at a hospital after being attacked by muggers with sticks in Sapahar Upazila of the district.
He succumbed to his injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) at around 2:40 pm on Saturday while undergoing treatment.
Earlier, he was attacked by a group of muggers at around 10 pm on Friday near Soyadpur Bridge on the Sapahar-Joboybeel road in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Abdullah-Hel-Kafi, son of Mowlana Abdur Rahim, a resident of Kowavasa Village in the upazila. He was the general secretary of Sapahar Upazila Unit of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
Local sources said that some muggers stopped Abdullah-Hill-Kafi and his associate Aahmadullah when they were returning to Sapahar from Asorbandar Bazar on Friday night. The muggers then took them to a mango garden, looted their belongings including mobile phones and money, and attempted to snatch their motorcycle. They struck Abdullah-Hel-Kafi on the head with sticks.
Although Aahmadullah was protected by a helmet and remained unharmed, Abdullah-Hill-Kafi was critically injured at that time.
Upon hearing their screams, locals rescued them and rushed Abdullah-Hill-Kafi to Sapahar Upazila Health Complex. He was, later, referred to the RMCH for further treatment, but succumbed to his injuries on Saturday noon while undergoing treatment there.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
A murder case has been filed with Sapahar PS in this connection.
Sapahar PS OC Polash Debnath confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are trying to identify and arrest those involved in the killing. 
GAIBANDHA: Police have recovered the body of a teenage girl, who was reportedly gang-raped and murdered in Gobindaganj Upazila of the district on Saturday.
However, the law enforcers have detained Raja Mia, a neighbour of the deceased, on suspicion of his involvement in the crime. 
Gobindaganj PS OC Asaduzzaman Asad confirmed the incident.
The deceased's parents have also been taken into custody for questioning, said the OC.
According to local sources, the teenage girl was last seen having a conversation with her neighbours near her home on Friday night. When she did not return home, her family began searching for her.
Despite their efforts, they were unable to find her. The following day, on Saturday afternoon, villagers discovered her body in a nearby jungle and informed her relatives and the police.
Upon receiving the information, police recovered the body on Saturday evening and sent it to the Gaibandha Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Investigators suspect that several people from the neighbourhood might have lured or forcibly taken her to the jungle, where she was raped. When her condition worsened, the assailants reportedly killed her and fled the scene.
It is still too early to determine the exact cause of her death.
However, the law enforcers are investigating the matter, the OC added.
LALMONIRHAT: A man was slaughtered by miscreants at his residence in Aditmari Upazila of the district early Saturday.
Police recovered the throat-slit body of the man from his house in Tiper Bazar area under Sarpukur Union of the upazila in the morning.   
The deceased was identified as Tahmidul Rahman Tara Mia, 40, a resident of the area.
Local sources said that Tara Mia had lived alone since his wife has been staying abroad for the past seven years. 
It is estimated that on Friday night, miscreants killed him and fled the scene. 
On Saturday morning, locals spotted the body of Tara Mia and informed the matter to police. 
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Aditmari PS OC Mahmud-un-Nabi confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter and trying to arrest those involved in the killing.
BAGERHAT: An auto-rickshaw driver was killed reportedly by a group of muggers while they were trying to snatch his vehicle in Chitalmari Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Anwar Molla alias Ano Molla, 45, son of Soleman Molla, a resident of Majhidanga Village under Sadar Upazila in the district. 
According to the deceased's family members, Anwar Molla was heading towards Chitalmari from Bagerhat Sadar riding on his auto-rickshaw with passengers on Friday night. As he did not return home till late night, they started looking for him and tracked down the location of the auto-rickshaw. Later on, with the help of locals, police arrested two muggers along with the auto-rickshaw from Kawkhali Upazila of Pirojpur District.
Following the statement of the arrested duo, a rescue team from nearby Fire Service recovered the body of Anwar Molla from Santoshpur Village under Chitalmari Upazila in the small hours of Saturday and handed it over to the police.
The body was, later, sent to Bagerhat General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Chitalmari PS OC Swapan Chandra Roy confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed in this regard and investigations are going on to find out any others involved in the killing.
However, legal action would be taken upon getting the autopsy report, the OC added.
BOGURA: A young man was killed in a mob beating while he was attempting to extort money in Kahalu Upazila of the district on Friday. 
The incident took place at around 10:30 pm in the house of one Phanindra Nath in Hindupara area of Sitakolma Village under the upazila. 
The deceased was identified as Rakib, 24, a resident of neighbouring Parishesh Village in the upazila.
Police have confirmed the incident and reported that Rakib was a member of the local extortion group known as the 'Ata Bahini gang'.
Quoting locals, Kahalu PS OC Shahinozzaman said that members of 'Ata Bahini' demanded a ransom of Tk 10 lakh from Phanindra Nath's family. When their demand was not met, they attacked the house, injuring one person with a sharp weapon. Hearing the family's cries for help, local villagers rushed to the scene and chased the group. Rakib was caught by the villagers and subsequently beaten to death on the spot. 
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The OC also mentioned that preparations for filing of a case are underway. 
Efforts are being made to apprehend the remaining members of the gang, the OC added.
NOAKHALI: A local leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was killed in a factional clash between two groups of the party in Companiganj Upazila of the district.
Deceased Abdul Motin Tota, 65, was a former chairman of Charelahi Union Parishad and joint convener of the Companiganj Upazila Unit of BNP.
He died at Popular Hospital in Dhanmondi of Dhaka on Friday afternoon while undergoing treatment. 
Earlier, he was critically injured during a clash between two factions of BNP over establishing supremacy in Charelahi Union in the upazila. Since then, he had been receiving treatment at the hospital.
Companiganj PS OC Pronab Chowdhury said, "Although we have been informed about the incident, no allegations have been filed yet. Legal action will be taken after an allegation is received."
Nurul Alam Shikdar, convener of the Companiganj Upazila BNP, said, "I condemn the murder of Tota in the terrorist attack. I demand the arrest for those involved in the killing."
