Tigers whitewash Pakistan

Bangladesh trounced Pakistan by six wickets in the second Test of the two-match series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, making history by obliterating Pakistan on their home turf.

In the fourth innings, Bangladesh had scored 42 runs in seven overs on Monday afternoon, chasing Pakistan's target of 185 runs. On the fifth day, Bangladesh needed 143 more runs to win, which they achieved losing four wickets along the way. All four batsmen who were dismissed reached scores of 20 or more, but none managed to make a fifty. After the opening pair completed their fifty-run partnership earlier in the day, Zakir Hasan was dismissed for 40 off 39 balls. Shadman Islam, who was given a life on 17, got out after adding just seven more runs. Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque then built a 57-run partnership for the third wicket, with Shanto scoring 38 and Mominul 34. The two most experienced batsmen on the team Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim then steered the Tigers safely to the target in 56 overs.

Shakib sealed the win by driving Abrar Ahmed's delivery outside the off stump to the boundary marking an extraordinary achievement for Bangladesh. Shakib and Mushfiq remained unbeaten on 22 and 21 runs correspondingly.

Mir Hamza, Khurram Shahzad, Abrar Ahmed and Salman Ali Agha each took one wicket for Pakistan.

Liton Das was named the Player of the Match for the first time in his nine-year career spanning 43 matches. He played a crucial innings of 138 runs under heavy pressure in the first innings and also had six dismissals as a wicketkeeper.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who scored 155 runs with the bat and took 10 wickets with the ball over the two Tests, was adjudged the Player of the Series. The all-rounder announced that he would donate his prize money to the family of a rickshaw puller who was killed during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Earlier, Day 1 of the match was washed out, but Bangladesh won the toss on Day 2 and elected to field first. The visitors bowled out the hosts for 274 runs in the first innings, with Saim Ayub scoring 58, Shan Masood 57 and Salman Ali Agha 54.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz took five wickets for 61 runs, while Taskin claimed three for 57. Nahid Rana and Shakib Al Hasan shared the remaining wickets.

In reply, Bangladesh posted 262 runs in their first innings despite losing their top six batters for just 26 runs. However, thanks to the brilliant batting of Liton Das, who scored 138 runs and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who added 78.

Khurram Shahzad claimed six wickets for Pakistan, while Mir Hamza and Salman Ali Agha shared the remaining wickets equally.

Pakistan however, were wrapped up for 172 runs in their second innings, with Salman Ali Agha remaining unbeaten on 47 and Mohammad Rizwan scoring 43 runs.

Bangladesh's pacers took all 10 wickets in an innings for the first time in Test cricket. Hasan Mahmud claimed his maiden five-wicket haul conceding just 43 runs, while Nahid Rana took four wickets for 44 runs, marking his best bowling figures. Taskin Ahmed took the remaining wicket.

With this victory, Bangladesh secured their fifth Test series win. Previously, they had won series twice against both Zimbabwe and the West Indies.
