After a few days of strike over assaults on doctors, outpatient services at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital fully resumed on Wednesday.
Outdoors and emergency departments of the two hospitals were seen brimming with patients from the morning.
Security of doctors was also enhanced at the two hospitals in the face their announcement to hold countrywide strike.
The situation at DMCH escalated on August 31 when a patient's death led to allegations of negligence, resulting in an assault on three doctors by the patient's relatives.
This incident prompted a strike by doctors, who had initially called for a nationwide shutdown of medical services. The strike was called off on September 1 after Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum assured improved security and the arrest of those responsible for the assault.
At the Suhrawardy Hospital, death of Rabeya Akhter on September 1 had sparked a confrontation between the hospital staff and the patient's relatives.
DMCH Director Brig Gen Asaduzzaman Khan told reporters that both the emergency and outpatient departments were operational after ensuring improved security measures from Wednesday.
Suhrawardy Hospital Director Harunur Rashid said that the emergency department was fully operational from September 2, and outpatient services had become fully functional on Wednesday morning.
In the meantime, two people have been arrested in connection with the attack on DMCH doctors on August 31.
