Burning 46 bodies at Ashulia: Complaint against Hasina, 21 cops at ICT

A complaint has been filed with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) accusing former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 35 others over burning the dead bodies after killing 46 students and people during the Anti-Discrimination Movement at Ashulia in Dhaka on August 5.

The accused also include Sheikh Hasina's several ministers, 21 police personnel, and Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League workers.

On behalf of Syeda Akter, sister of Manarat International University's EEE Department's 3rd year student Ahnaf Abir Ashrafullah, Supreme Court lawyer Abdus Sattar Pahlowan lodged the complaint.

With this, as many as nine complaints have been lodged with the ICT against Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier, seven complaints against Sheikh Hasina and others were lodged with the ICT in Dhaka and also another complaint against Sheikh Hasina and others with the ICT in Chittagong. The investigation agency of the ICT is now investigating the complaints.

Explaining the crimes, the complaint has mentioned that at the directives and plans of No. 1 to No. 5, and No. 7 to No. 10 accused, other accused had committed genocide and crimes against humanity by opening fire on unarmed students and people indiscriminately using local firearms with a view to eliminating them completely or partially.

Those who have been made accused are former prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, former Bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former state minister for Posts and Telecommunications Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former state minister for Information Mohammad Ali Arafat, Savar-Ashulia's former MP Md Saiful Islam, several ministers of the then government, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former Additional IGP Harun-ar-Rashid, former DB chief Harun-or Rashid, former DIG Syed Nurul Islam, Dhaka District's Additional SP Mobasshira Jahan, former SP Abdullahil Kafi, Dhaka District North former DB inspector Arafat Hossain, Ashulia Police Station's OC (Investigation) Nirmal Chandra, OC AFM Sayed Ahmed, SI Afzalul, SI Jalil, SI Md Rakibul, SI Abul Hasan, SI Hamidur Rahman, SI Nasir Uddin, SI Abdul Malek, ASI Sumon Chandra Gayen, ASI Biswajit Roy, Constable Mulul, Constable Rezaul Karim, several other police personnel, Ashulia Thana Awami League president Faruk Hasan Tuhin alias Tuhin Kulu, Chhatra League vice-president Nadim Hossain, Jubo League convener Kabir Hossain Sardar, Chhatra League vice-president Md Shamim Hossain, Jubo League's Alamgir Hossain, Chhatra League president Sohag, secretary Titu, Savar Chhatra League president Atiqur Rahman Atique, Savar District Awami League's Haider, and other members of Chhatra League, Jubo League and Swecchasebak League.

It was further mentioned in the complaint that 46 people including Ahnaf were shot dead when No. 13 to No. 36 accused opened fire indiscriminately on a procession of students and people at Baipail in Ashulia on August 5 last at the directives of accused No. 1 to No. 12.

Later, the bullet-ridden bodies of the victims were piled up on vans by the accused No. 13 to No. 16. Then they set fire to a large police van putting the bodies on board of it from vans and spraying petrol on the vehicle near the Ashulia Police Station. Thus, they tried to conceal the brutal incident of genocide by burning the dead bodies.
