The government will take responsibility for the families of those martyred during the student-led mass uprising, says Adviser Nahid Islam.
The coordinator of the protest movement made the remarks at the Post and Telecommunications office on Thursday while meeting with the family of Ramzan Ali, a protester in the student-led movement who was shot and killed by police in Baipail.
Nahid said that a new Bangladesh had been created because the students and the public had taken to the streets and won it with their blood and sacrifice. "It is because of these martyrs that we are alive and have regained our freedom of speech," he said.
Nahid asked after Ramzan's family and promised to provide them and the families of all martyrs with a monthly allowance and other benefits and opportunities.
Ramzan's father and younger sister were present for the meeting.
Ramzan studied at a college in Natore's Singra. As no one else in his family was able to earn, he worked at a fish warehouse in Baipail to support his family. —bdnews24.com
