Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association and adviser to the BNP chairperson, on Wednesday sought speedy reform of the judiciary and urged the Interim Government to take immediate steps for removal of controversial and partisan justices from the Supreme Court.
The SCBA President came up with the demand at a press conference at the Supreme Court Bar Association on Wednesday.
"The judicial department was under the control of the Awami League government for the last 16 years. Many judges judged politically. The lawyer indulged in syndication. They must be removed. Many good judges were appointed during the previous government. No objection to them," Khokon said.
Barrister Khokon said that 60 to 62 judges were not given important benches. They are being monitored. There is nothing much to observe. Action should be taken quickly, he added.
He said that the Interim Government has not yet taken steps to appoint new judges. No policy has been made for the appointment of judges. Action should be taken in this regard.
Referring to the resignation of the former Chief Justice SK Sinha, the SCBA President said that the former Chief Justice SK Sinha was forcibly sent abroad as a cancer patient. Later, the government forced him to sign the resignation letter. That is why there was panic in the judicial department so that no one gives any order or judgment against the irregularities of the government.
He also said that in the last 16 years Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken action against some corrupt persons after getting direction from the AL government. Now the corruption of many corrupt people is coming in the media.
