Five murdered in Tangail, Khulna, Pabna

Five people were murdered in separate incidents in three districts - Tangail, Khulna and Pabna, on Thursday.

NAGARPUR, TANGAIL: A man and his nephew were stabbed to death allegedly by a youth while their reported killer died after being lynched by the locals in Nagarpur Upazila of the district on Thursday night.

The deceased were identified as Abdus Sattar, 50, his nephew Mohammad Asadul, 28, and their killer Taleb Mia, 30. All of them were residents of Dhubbaria Village under Nagarpur Upazila.

Quoting locals, police said Abdus Sattar and Taleb locked into an altercation over a trivial matter. 

At one stage, Taleb attacked on Sattar with a sharp weapon. To save Sattar, his nephew Asadul came forward and tried to save him but Taleb also attacked him, leaving the two critically injured.

Neighbours then rescued them and took the injured to Nagarpur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

Locals, later, detained the accused Taleb and beat him up indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nagarpur Police Station (PS) HM Jasim Uddin said that police personnel were deployed in the area to avert any untoward situation and the bodies of the Sattar and his nephew have been kept at the health complex.

KHULNA: A local Union Parishad (UP) member was killed and several others were injured during a clash between two groups of villagers in Terokhada Upazila of the district on Thursday night over establishing supremacy.

The deceased was identified as Md Faruk Mir, 40, son of Md Gaus Mir of Madhupur Village. He was a UP member.

Quoting locals, Gazirhat Police Outpost In-Charge Manirul Islam said that Mir and Sikdar groups had a longstanding dispute over establishing control in the area. At around 7:45 pm on Thursday, supporters from both sides equipped with sharp weapons locked into a clash at Kola Bazar, which left several people including Faruk Mir critically injured.

The injured were then rescued and taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where Mir succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, the police official added. 

Some other injured were Nur Mollah, 40, Jasim Mir, 40, Gaus Mir, 70, and Illias, 50.

Additional police personnel were deployed as a tensed situation has been prevailing in the area.

PABNA: A farmer was hacked to death by his rivals over a land dispute in Sadar Upazila of the district on Thursday.

Deceased Amjad Hossain, 56, son of Khadir Praman, a resident of Paikel Village under Malanchi Union in the upazila. 

According to police and local sources, Amjad Hossain and his cousin brother Afzal Hossain had a longstanding feud over a land.

Following this, the two locked into an altercation, and at one stage of the altercation, Afzal hacked Amjad mercilessly, leaving him critically injured.

Locals then rescued the injured and rushed him to Pabna General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor referred him to Dhaka for better treatment.

Later on, Amjad Hossain succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.

Pabna Sadar PS OC Roshan Ali confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are trying to detain the accused Afzal Hossain and legal action would be taken in this connection.
