Road mishaps claim five lives in five districts

Five people have been killed and six others injured in separate road accidents in five districts - Netrakona, Barishal, Naogaon, Rajshahi and Dinajpur, in two days.
 
NETRAKONA: An activist of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was killed and four others were injured after a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Kendua Upazila of the district on Saturday. 

The accident took place in Mayazkandi area on the Netrakona-Kendua road of the upazila in the evening. 

The deceased was identified as Ekhlas Uddin, 65, a resident of Maska Union in the upazila. 

It was known that the accident happened in the area while some activists of Jamaat-e-Islami were returning home riding on a CNG-run auto-rickshaw after attending a conference of the party, which left five of them critically injured. 

Locals then rescued the injured and took them to Kendua Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors referred them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) for better treatment. Later on, Ekhlas Uddin succumbed to his injuries on the way to the MMCH.   

Being informed, police recovered the body.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kendua Police Station (PS) Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.

BARISHAL: A college student was killed and his friend injured after being hit by a bus in Banaripara Upazila of the district on Friday noon.

The accident took place in Board School area on the Barishal-Banaripara road under the upazila at around 2 pm. 

The deceased was identified as Saurav Gyne, 20, son of Shanti Gyne, a resident of Ward No. 7 under Banaripara Municipality. He was a student of BA first year at Banaripara Degree College.

The injured person is Sajal, 20. He is a friend of the deceased.

It was known that the two friends were returning Banaripara Town from Guachitra Bazar in the upazila at noon riding on a motorcycle. On the way, a Swarupkathi-bound passenger-laden bus of 'Dakshin Bangla Paribahan' hit their motorcycle in Board School area on the Banaripara-Barishal road at around 2 pm from behind, which left the duo critically injured.

Locals then rescued the injured and took them to Banaripara Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Saurav dead. 

Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members without an autopsy as there was no complaint lodged by them in this regard. 

However, the law enforcers have seized the killer bus, but its driver managed to flee the scene. Sub-Inspector of Banaripara PS Lenin Kanti Halder confirmed the incident.      

MANDA, NAOGAON: An elderly man was killed in a road accident in Manda Upazila of the district on Friday.

The accident took place in Panjarbhanga area of the upazila at noon.

The deceased was identified as Lutfor Rahman Molla, 70, a resident of Alenga Village under the upazila.

Police and local sources said that Lutfor Rahman Molla was going to attend a marriage ceremony at a nearby village riding on a motorbike.

On the way, a tractor hit his motorcycle in Panjarbhanga area at noon, leaving him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Naogaon Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. 

Manda PS OC Mozammel Haque confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed with the PS in this regard. 

RAJSHAHI: A man was killed after a drum truck hit his motorcycle in Mohanpur Upazila of the district on Friday.

The accident took place in Nandanhat area on Rajshahi-Naogaon highway under the upazila at noon. 

The deceased was identified as Mrinmoy Barma, 35, an area manager of Brac Bank.

It was known that Mrinmoy Barma was killed on the spot when a drum truck knocked his motorbike down in Nandanhat area on Rajshahi-Naogaon highway at noon.

On information, police rushed to the place and recovered the body. 

However, the law enforcers have seized the motorbike and truck from the scene.

Mohanpur PS OC Soheb Khan confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed in this regard.

GHORAGHAT, DINAJPUR: A helper of a truck was killed and its driver injured in a road accident in Ghoraghat Upazila of the district on Friday.

The accident took place in Haripara Haat area on the Gobindaganj-Dinajpur regional highway under the upazila at around 5 am.

The deceased was identified as Saurav Pahan, 23, son of Sharipada Pahan, a resident of Sultanpur Village under Panchbibi Upazila in Joypurhat District.

The injured truck driver is Hafizur Islam, 48, son of late Abdul Gazi, a resident of Rajatpur Village under Sadar Upazila in Naogaon District.

It was known that a fuel-laden truck hit a stone-laden truck from behind after losing its control over the steering in Haripara Haat area on the Gobindaganj-Dinajpur regional highway at dawn, which left helper of the fuel-laden truck killed on the spot and its driver injured.

On information, Fire Service personnel recovered the body of the deceased and rushed the injured to Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex after rescuing him.

Later on, the injured truck driver was shifted to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Ghoraghat PS OC Asaduzzaman Asad confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed in this regard.
