Bangladeshi adolescent shot dead by BSF along Thakurgaon border

A Bangladeshi teenage boy was killed and another others were injured after being shot by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Kantivita border area under Baliadangi upazila in Thakurgaon district early Monday. 

The incident happened near BGB main piller 393 under Dhontola union in the upazila. 

The deceased was identified as Shree Jayanta Kumar Singh, 15, son of Shree Mohadeb Kumar Singh, a resident of Fakir Vita village in the upazila. 

The injured are Shree Mohadeb Kumar, a resident of Belpukur village; and Bangtu Mohammad, a resident of Nitaldoba village. Both are from the same upazila. 

The injured are undergoing treatment at a clinic in Rangpur. 

It was learnt that the boy was shot to death by BSF inside the Indian border while he, alongwith others, was trying to enter India illegally. The two others also sustained injuries in the incident.   

Confirming the news, Firoz Kabir, officer-in-charge of Baliadangi Police Station, said that the body has been kept under the BSF custody. The reason for their presence at the border area is not known. 

Lt. Col. Tanzir Ahmed, Commander of the 50th Battalion of Thakurgaon BGB, said that efforts are ongoing to bring the body back.
