Hilsa prices slightly decrease at Dumuria Upazila

DUMURIA, KHULNA, Sept 9: With increasing arrival of Hilsa fish in local markets in Dumuria Upazila of the district, the price of the fish has decreased a little bit. But this price fall is not satisfactory.

According to market sources, the Hilsa arrival in the local markets has been increasing for the last several days. 

Traders said, the price of Hilsa has decreased as this is the season.

Consumers said, the Hilsa price should be cheaper so that middle-income, lower-income people and day-earning people can afford the price.

In a week gap, the Hilsa price has been decreased by Tk 150 to 250 per kilogram (KG).

A recent visit found availability of Hilsa baskets of traders in Dumuria and Chuknagar markets. 

Hilsas of the Padma River, Barishal and Chandpur were seen displayed separately. The demand of Padma Hilsa is high. But the size of the Padma Hilsa is small. 

The size of the Hilsa of Barishal is big. The weight is one kg to 1.5 kg.

A seller Rajib said, compared to last year's, this year's price is a bit higher; but the current price fall is normal as this is the season of Hilsa. 
Consumers said, if the price of the Hilsa would be Tk 300/400 per kg, all types of consumers could purchase Hilsas.

Per three pieces of Hilsa that are weighing one kg is selling at Tk 900 against previous price of Tk 1,200; per four pieces of Hilsa weighing one kg is selling at Tk 700 against previous price of Tk 900; per six pieces of Hilsa weighing one kg  is selling at Tk 550 against previous price of Tk 750.

Per two pieces of Hilsa weighing one kg and 300 grams is selling at Tk 1,300 against previous price of Tk 1,500, and per two pieces of Hilsa weighing one kg is selling at Tk 1,200 against Tk 1,400 previously.

A consumer Moslem Uddin said, "The Hilsa price has decreased a bit. But it is not the expected price fall. It seems to us higher."
Another Md Halim Mistri said, "Compared to last year, the price is a bit lower this year. I have purchased Hilsas of Padma. It would be good if the price decreases a little more."

A trader Md Insad Ali said, the sale has increased with the price fall; many consumers are purchasing Hilsas in increased volume.  The demand of Padma Hilsa is higher, he added.

Another Md Sirajul Islam said, "Small- and medium-sized Hilsa of Padma is sold higher. The Hilsa of Padma is very fresh. We purchase Hilsas daily in the morning from the bank of the Padma River. But the price is a bit higher."
