BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Monday, "India's policy of hegemony towards neighbouring countries never produced good results."

Fakhrul made these comments in response to Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's recent call his country's armed forces to get prepared for war.

After paying homage at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on the 46th founding anniversary of BNP Mahila Dal, he said, "Indian policy of hegemony never produced good results."

Fakhrul said, "Because of Indian policy of hegemony, India's relationship with all its neighbours is not at all good."

"We believe India's relationship with Bangladesh should be based  on mutual respect, dignity, and shared interests," Fakhrul said.

Fakhrul said that many students, as well as women and children, sacrificed their lives in this revolution that led to the fall of the fascist government. No one can deny the contribution of women in this movement for restoration of democracy.

He said, "On this day, we've taken the oath to continue our struggle to consolidate the freedom that has been achieved,  restore democracy and  the rule of law and the rule of the people."

He said, "The interim government will hand over power to the people after an election and  completing the reforms as soon as possible."

Fakhrul said that he met the Chief Adviser twice and requested him to present the reform proposals to the people and set a timeline so that the general election can be held within a reasonable timeframe.

Fakhrul and BNP Standing Committee members Selima Rahman and Professor AZM Zahid Hossain, Mahila Dal President Afroza Abbas, General Secretary Sultana Ahmed, Joint General Secretary Helen Zerin Khan and leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal placed wreaths at Zia's grave.

They offered special munajat seeking eternal peace for  Ziaur Rahman.
