A local Swechchhasebak Dal leader was hacked to death by his rivals in Bogura's Sadar upazila on Monday night.

The incident occurred around 9:00 PM in front of the Gokul union parishad in the upazila.

Another man was hacked and beaten to death by Mizan's group at the same night.

The deceased were identified as Mizanur Rahman Mizan, 37, son of Afsar Ali, a resident of the Gokul area in the upazila, and Ledu, 35, son of Bulu Miah, also a resident of the area. Mizan was the convener of the Swechchhasebak Dal’s Bogura Sadar upazila unit, while Ledu was a supporter of Bipul, the suspended president of the Gokul Union Jubo Dal.

It was reported that Mizan, along with 6-7 others, was chatting in the area when 8-10 miscreants on motorcycles arrived and attacked them with sharp weapons during a power outage, leaving Mizan critically injured.

Locals rescued Mizan and took him to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared dead by the on-duty doctors.

Meanwhile, Mizan's supporters attacked and hacked Ledu, alleging that the Bipul group was involved in the attack on Mizan.

Police rescued Ledu in critical condition and took him to the same hospital, where he was again beaten by Mizan's supporters. Ledu succumbed to his injuries around 11:00 PM at the hospital.

Police visited the scene following the incident, said Saihan Oliullah, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

Investigations are ongoing to find out the reasons behind the incidents, the OC added.
