Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned from power on August 5 last during the mass uprising led by the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement. The angry people attacked and vandalised different police stations in the country following the fall of the government. They also set fire to the police stations.
Following the attacks on police stations and police outposts, miscreants looted arms and ammunition. September 3 was the deadline to deposit the arms and ammunition. Since September 4, the joint forces have been conducting operation against the looted and illegal arms and ammunition.
The Police Headquarters said 111, out of the looted arms across the country including capital Dhaka, have been recovered and 51 people arrested in these connections.
It was stated by Police Headquarters AIG (Media and PR) Enamul Huque Sagar on Tuesday evening. He said a total of 111 arms have been recovered after the joint forces have launched operation since September 4.
The recovered arms comprise seven were revolvers, 30 pistols, 15 shotguns, 3 pipeguns, 16 shooter guns, 15 LGs, 5 guns, one AK-47, one gas-gun, one Chinese rifle, one airgun, 3 SBBLs, 3 SMGs and a teargas launcher.
The Police Headquarters sources said the Bangladesh Army, Police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, Coast Guard and RAB have been taking part in the joint operations.
