Relatives of the deceased Sohrab Hossain Apel wail hearing the death of Apel at a hospital on Tuesday

Two people who were picked up by joint forces after conducting raids at their houses at Saghata upazila in Gaibandha district after midnight on Monday died on Tuesday.

Police have claimed that they died due to sickness during the raids.

Following the raids after midnight on Monday, the two men died while underwent treatment at two separate hospitals on Tuesday. 

Besides, three more people who were also picked up by joint forces are now undergoing treatment at hospitals.

The deceased are Sohrab Hossain Apel, 35, son of late Rustam Ali, and Shafiqul Islam, 45, son of late Malek Uddin, of village Gobinda under Saghata union of Saghata upazila.
Family members of the deceased said a team of 60 to 70 law enforcers launched a drive late Monday night Saghata Union Awami League president Mosharraf Hossain Sweet's house claiming that there were arms and then picked up five people including Sweet.

Four others were Mosharraf Hossain Sweet's nephew and late Rustam Ali's son Sohrab Hossain Apel, 35, late Malek Uddin's son Shafiqul Islam, 45, late Shefayet Ali's son Shahadat Hossain Palash, 28 of village Bashhata, and Shafiqul Islam's son Reazul Islam Rocky, 28, of village Uttar Satalia  in the same union.

On Tuesday morning, three of them were admitted to Gaibandha General Hospital and two were to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra under police escort. Sohrab Hossain Apel died at Gaibandha General Hospital while Shafiqul Islam died at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in the early Tuesday afternoon.

Among the injured, Reazul Islam Rocky is now undergoing treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra, while Mosharraf Hossain Sweet and Shahadat Hossain are undergoing treatment at Gaibandha General Hospital.

Gaibandha General Hospital's Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Mohammad Asif said, "This morning (Tuesday), police brought seriously injured Sohrab at the hospital. There were marks of injuries of beating throughout his body. Postmortem of the body will be conducted. The causes of death cannot be said without the postmortem."

Contacted, Gaibandha's additional police super (Finace and Admn) Ibne Mizan said over phone that two died as they fell sick during the drives by law enforcers. 

Asked how many people were detained during the drives, he could not say anything else specifically.
