Eight killed, 18 injured in separate road mishaps

Eight people have been killed and at least 18 others injured in separate road accidents in six districts - Bagerhat, Natore, Rangamati, Tangail, Sherpur and Cumilla, in three days.    
BAGERHAT: A teenage boy was killed after being hit a truck in Fakirhat Upazila of the district on Tuesday noon.
The accident took place in Town Noapara area of the upazila at around 2:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Tanju Sheikh, 18, son of Iqbal Sheikh, hailed from Sadar Upazila in Gopalganj District. He worked as a helper of his father's truck.
According to Fakirhat Fire Service and Civil Defence Station sources, the deceased's father Iqbal stopped their truck in a CNG filling station in Town Noapara area of the upazila at noon to refill fuel. At that time, a speedy Khulna-bound truck rammed their truck from behind, leaving Tanju dead on the spot.
On information, Fire Service personnel recovered the body from the scene and handed it over to the police.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Mollahat Highway Police Station (PS) Sumon Rahman confirmed the incident, saying that the law enforcers have seized the truck while fleeing from the scene. 
However, the truck driver managed to flee and police are trying to detain him, the SI added.
NATORE: Two persons including the principal of Tamaltala Technical College were killed and another injured in a road accident in Sadar Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The accident took place in Dalsarak area on the Natore-Bogura highway under the upazila in the evening.
The deceased were identified as Rafique Sarker, 55, a worker of Natore Palli Bidyut Samity, and Zulfikar Ali, principal of Tamaltala Technical College.
The accident occurred when a motorbike carrying Rafique Sarker and Zulfikar Ali hit another motorbike in Dalsarak area on the Natore-Bogura highway under the upazila in the evening, which left three people seriously injured, said Shahadat Hossain, an officer of Natore Fire Service and Civil Defence Station.
The injured were then rescued by local people and taken to Natore Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared Rafique dead.
Principal Zulfikar was, later, shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) from there as his condition deteriorated further.
Later on, he succumbed to his injuries at the RMCH at night while undergoing treatment.
However, necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the Fire Service official added.
KAPTAI, RANGAMATI: An employee of Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC) in Kaptai Upazila of the district was killed in a road accident at dawn on Tuesday. 
The accident took place in Daudkandi area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Cumilla District at around 5 am. 
The deceased was identified as Md Al-Amin, 35, an employee of LPC Branch of the BFIDC. He was a resident of Ward No. 6 Talpatti area under No. 4 Kaptai Sadar Union in the upazila.  
According to the deceased's family sources, Al-Amin along with his two other colleagues went to Dhaka for delivering some goods. On Monday night, they left Dhaka for Kaptai riding on a truck. On the way, the truck stopped due to its mechanic default in Daudkandi area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway of Cumilla at around 5 am on Tuesday. At that time, a covered van hit Al-Amin from behind while he was trying to fixing the default of their truck. He died on the spot.
Manager of LPC Branch of BFIDC in Kaptai Tirtha Jit Roy confirmed the incident, adding that necessary measures were taken to bring the body back to Kaptai and filing of a case with the PS concerned is underway in this connection.    
TANGAIL: Two elderly men were killed in separate road accidents in the district on Monday.
The accidents took place in Suvullya and Dewhata areas on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in the morning.
Of the deceased, one was identified as Sonamuddin, 70, while another remained unidentified. 
Police sources said said a 65-year unidentified man died on the spot when a bus crushed him in Shuvullya area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway at around 9 am.
In another accident, Sonamuddin was killed after being hit by a bus while he was crossing the the Dhaka-Tangail highway at Dewhata at around 10:45 am.
Being informed, police have recovered the bodies from the scenes. 
Gorai Highway PS SI Anisuzzaman confirmed the incidents, adding that legal actions would be taken in these regards.
SHERPUR: At least 17 people including children and women were injured in a head-on collision between two microbuses in Sadar Upazila of the district at dawn on Monday.
The accident took place at around 5:15 am on the Sherpur-Mymensingh highway in front of a local passport office in Nabinnagr area in the upazila.
Thirteen of the injured were shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) from Sherpur Sadar Hospital.
Of them, conditions of three were stated to be critical.
Local sources said that the two speedy microbuses collided with each other in Nabinnagr area at dawn, which left all including the drivers of the vehicles seriously injured.
Later on, locals and Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel rescued the injured and rushed them to Sherpur Sadar Hospital and later shifted to the MMCH, they said.
Officer-in-Charge of Sherpur Sadar PS Mohammad Jahangir Alam confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.
CUMILLA: Two motorcyclists were killed after a covered van hit their vehicle in Sadar Upazila of the district on Sunday night.
The accident took place in Yasin Market area of Cumilla Export Processing Zone (EPZ) under the upazila at around 9 pm. 
The deceased were identified as Hasan Mia, 24, son of Majnu Mia, a resident of Narunda area in Tangail District, and Masum Hossain, 29, son of Humayun Hossain, hailed from Banishanta area in Khulna District. 
Kabir Hossain, in-charge of EPZ Police Outpost, said that both of the deceased were the workers of Cumilla EPZ. The accident occurred when they were returning home after completing their duties at around 9 pm riding on a bike and a covered van knocked them from behind in Yasin Market area, which left both of them dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies from the scene and sent those to Cumilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies.
However, legal action would be taken in this connection, the police official added.
