GAIBANDHA, Sept 11: Two people, who were picked up by the joint forces from their houses in Saghata Upazila of the district on Monday midnight, died on Tuesday.
Police have claimed that they died due to sickness.
The deceased were identified as Sohrab Hossain Apel, 35, son of late Rustam Ali, and Shafiqul Islam, 45, son of late Malek Uddin, residents of Gobinda Village under Saghata Sadar Union.
Besides, three more people, who were also picked up by joint forces, are now undergoing treatment at hospitals.
Family members of the deceased said that a team of 60 to 70 law-enforcers launched a drive after midnight on Monday in Saghata Union Awami League President Mosharraf Hossain Sweet's house claiming that there were arms, and then picked up five people including Sweet.
Four others were Mosharraf Hossain Sweet's nephew and late Rustam Ali's son Sohrab Hossain Apel, 35, late Malek Uddin's son Shafiqul Islam, 45, late Shefayet Ali's son Shahadat Hossain Palash, 28, of Bashhata Village, and Shafiqul Islam's son Reazul Islam Rocky, 28, of Uttar Satalia Village in the same union.
On Tuesday morning, three of them were admitted to Gaibandha General Hospital and two to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZRMCH) under police escort.
Sohrab Hossain Apel died at Gaibandha General Hospital while Shafiqul Islam died at the SZRMCH on Tuesday afternoon.
Among the injured, Reazul Islam Rocky is now undergoing treatment at the SZRMCH while Mosharraf Hossain Sweet and Shahadat Hossain at Gaibandha General Hospital.
Resident Medical Officer of Gaibandha General Hospital Mohammad Asif said, "Police brought seriously injured Sohrab at the hospital on Tuesday morning. There were injury marks throughout his body. Post-mortem of the body will be conducted. The causes behind his death cannot be said without the autopsy."
Additional Superintend of Police (Finance and Administration) Ibne Mizan said over mobile phone that the two died as they fell sick during the drives by the law enforcers.
