Speakers urged the landowners to contact either land offices or the upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) and assistant commissioners (AC Lands) to solve land related problems easily.
The UNOs and AC Lands are the proper channels for solving the problems faced by the land owners, they said, adding that there is no need to contact brokers as they extract public money in the name of services.
Administrative officials and civil society members made the observation at a daylong democratic dialogue on land related issues at Bhumir Pathshala in Paba Upazila of Rajshahi on Wednesday.
Rajshahi District Civil Society Organization (CSO) organized the dialogue on behalf of the 'Young people at high schools strengthen women rights and inclusive governance in Bangladesh (YUKTA)' project of DASCOH Foundation supported by Netz Bangladesh.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Rajshahi Shamim Ahmed and UNO Abu Saleh Mohammad Hasnat addressed the dialogue as the chief and special guests respectively with AC Land Abhijit Sarkar in the chair.
CSO Vice-President Kazi Nazmul Islam moderated the discussion.
District Project Coordinator Anamul Haque Khan gave an illustration on the issue along with portraying aims, objectives and implementation strategy of the project in his keynote presentation.
DC Shamim Ahmed said that ignorance and underestimation caused most of the land related complications and none will be deceived if he or she follows the proper channel.
AC Land Abhijit Sarkar told the meeting that most of the people are paying money illegally for 'namjari' or dismissal of land through brokers at present.
Members of civil society of Rajshahi District joined the dialogue. —BSS
