Address workers’ unrest in RMG sector

Dear Sir

The recent indefinite closure of 22 readymade garment factories in Savar's Ashulia, along with eight additional factories declaring holidays, highlights a critical issue affecting the industry. Workers' ongoing protests, leading to these drastic measures, underscore deep-rooted problems within the sector, including labor conditions and wage disputes. The deployment of additional police, army, and RAB members in response to the unrest reflects the seriousness of the situation but also raises concerns about the underlying causes of these protests.

Addressing these concerns should go beyond temporary solutions. It is essential for factory owners and authorities to engage in meaningful dialogue with workers to address grievances and improve working conditions. Sustainable solutions are needed to ensure the industry's stability and safeguard workers' rights. Without such measures, the cycle of protest and closure is likely to continue, impacting both workers' livelihoods and the industry's reputation.
