Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, energy adviser to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was placed on a four-day remand by a Dhaka court on Wednesday in a case filed over the death of Suman Sikdar, 31, in the city's Badda during the quota protests on July 19.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ali Haider passed the order after Badda Police Sub Inspector Rejaul Alam; also Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.
On the other hand, former inspector general of police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque was sent to jail in a murder case after completion of his seven-day remand.
The same magistrate on Wednesday passed the order after investigation officer New Market police Station SI Bayezid Bostami produced the former IGP, Shahidul and prayed to the court to keep him in jail until the case investigation ends.
Former prime minister's energy adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi was arrested from the capital's Gulshan area on Tuesday night.
On Wednesday he was produced in Suman Sikdar murder case of Badda. On August 20, Masuma, mother of the victim, Suman filed the murder case with Badda Police Station against Hasina and 179 others.
He was appointed Hasina's energy adviser in 2009 and served in the position till August 5.
