Bangladesh made one change to their Test squad for the upcoming tour of India which is scheduled to begin from September 19.
Right-arm wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali is replacing left-arm pacer Shorfiul Islam. Shoriful had suffered a groin injury during the first Test against Pakistan, and did not play the second.
Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed make up Bangladesh's pace attack in Shoriful's absence.
According to the physician at the BCB, the kind of injury that Shrofiul suffered takes around 10 days to recover. But in his case, it’s taking more time.
It’s expected that Shoriful will join the Bangladesh team for the T20I series against India.
Jaker played T20Is for Bangladesh, but he got the call to the Test team for the first time.
The first Test against India begins on September 19 in Chennai, with the second one from September 27 onwards in Kanpur.
Both games are part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, where India are currently placed on top, while Bangladesh are at No. 4 on the points table.
Meanwhile, before this series, Bangladesh played 13 Tests against India but failed to win any of them. Two Tests ended in a draw, and Bangladesh lost 11 of those matches.
Following the Test series, both the teams will take on a three-match T20I series.
