Low-lying areas of Ctg, Feni, likely to be inundated: FFWC

Some low-lying areas of eight districts, including Chittagong, Feni, Cumilla, Noakhali, are likely to be submerged by fresh flood due to the heavy rainfall in the country predicted in the next three days.

According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) on Thursday, the possibility of heavy rainfall in the country and upstream, the rivers in Chittagong division may swell rapidly and inundated the low-lying areas of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Khagrachhari, Feni, Cumilla, Noakhali, Laxmipur districts.

Besides, the forecasts of heavy rain by the meteorological agencies, the water level of the rivers of Barisal and Khulna divisions may increase in the next three days.
FFWC reports said the water level of all the major rivers of the country is flowing below the danger level while the water level of Feni, Muhuri, Halda, Sangu and Matamuhuri rivers of the Chittagong division is increasing, while the water level of Gumti River is decreasing.

Besides, the water levels in the Brahmaputra-Jamuna rivers are slowly receding, which may continue for the next five days and may flow below the danger level.

Ganga-Padma river water level is slowly decreasing, which may continue for the next three days and the water level may remain stable for the next two days, but may flow below danger level.

The water level of the Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers in Rangpur division is receding at a slow rate.

Water level of these rivers may decrease slowly till next two days and water level may remain stable in next 24 hours, but may flow below danger level.

The water level of Surma and Kushiyara other major rivers of Sylhet division – Manu, Sarigoin, Dhalai, Khoai is decreasing, which can continue up to 24 hours.

In the next two days, the water level of the rivers in Sylhet division may remain steady but may flow below the danger level.
