The Bangladesh cricket team recently made history by sweeping cleanly Pakistan in a two-match Test series on their home turf. Following this remarkable achievement, the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus announced a reception for the Tigers upon their return, which took place on Thursday.
The cricketers and staff were honored at a reception held at Jamuna, the official residence of the Chief Advisor. In his welcome speech, the Chief Advisor described the Test series win against Pakistan as 'historic'.
Yunus said, "I spoke to the captain right after the series win, but I was looking forward to meeting all of you and congratulating you on behalf of the entire nation."
He also reminded the players of the power of sports to unite a nation. A sports enthusiast himself, Yunus shared with the players his involvement in the Paris Olympics, where he served as a consultant and goodwill ambassador. He further informed the cricketers that he has been invited for a similar role at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, Italy.
Bangladesh players including Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque expressed their happiness at receiving the reception and congratulations from the Chief Advisor. Speaking on behalf of the team, captain Shanto said, "Every player is happy to be here. It will really motivate us." He added that the hard work of all the players and coaching staff played a crucial role in securing the series win in Pakistan.
Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, the new BCB president Faruque Ahmed, BCB director Nazmul Abedin Fahim and BCB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nizam Uddin Chowdhury Sujon were also present at the event alongside the players.
