The event in memory of the martyrs of the student-led movement in July and early August supposed to be held on September 14 was postponed, said Information and Broadcasting Ministry Adviser Nahid Islam on Thursday.

Adviser Nahid said the memorial event was postponed as the full list of the deceased was yet to be finalised and added that the event would be rescheduled later on. Nahid said this at a press conference at the Secretariat.

The Adviser said, "So far, reports indicate that 728 individuals have been killed and 20,263 injured, but the death toll may increase slightly. As the final list is not ready yet, we have decided to postpone the memorial meeting scheduled for September 14."

In the meantime, the interim government established a July Martyrs' Memorial Foundation to provide financial and humanitarian assistance to the families of those injured and killed during the students-led mass uprising that led to the fall of Awami League regime on August 5.

The constitution of the Foundation also stressed the need to support those injured or left disabled during the protests by providing medical care, employment, rehabilitation, and other necessary aid.

Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has been made Chairman of the executive council of the Foundation.

The foundation will receive donations, grants, and aid from the government. Donations may also be accepted from foreign governments, international organisations, agencies, or institutions. Any income generated from the Foundation's property or activities will also be added to its funds.

Any individual, local authority, statutory body, or similar institution may donate to the Foundation. Additionally, the Foundation may invest its funds to generate income, as stated in the constitution.
