BOGURA, Sept 13: Four workers were killed in an explosion when fire from welder fell on an oil tank during repairing an oil pipeline in Sherpur upazila of the district on Thursday noon.
The incident took place at Mazumder Rice Bran Oil Mills at Bhabanipur in the upazila at about 1:15 pm.
The deceased were identified as Md Imran, 32, son of Khalilur Rahman, Abu Syeed, 38, son of Solaiman, Md Rubel Mia, 31, and Md Monir Hossain, 28, son of Salam Hossain. All of them hailed from Syedpur Officers Colony in Nilphamari District.
Police and local sources said the accident occurred at Mazumder Rice Bran Oil Mills in Bhabanipur area at noon as the oil tanker of the factory exploded during welding work of a leaked pipeline, which left the four workers seriously injured.
The injured were then rescued and rushed to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZRMCH), where the on-duty doctors pronounced them dead.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to the SZRMCH morgue for autopsies.
Officer-in-Charge of Sherpur Police Station Rezaul Karim Reza confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.
