Five minors drown in Feni, Cumilla, Patuakhali

Five minor children drowned in separate incidents in three districts - Feni, Cumilla and Patuakhali, in four days. 
 
FENI: Two minor children drowned in separate incidents in Parshuram Upazila of the district on Thursday.

A 15-month-old minor girl drowned in a pond in the upazila at noon.

The incident took place in North Uttar Para area under Parshuram Municipality at around 12 pm.

The deceased was identified as Nahida Akhter, daughter of Nasir Uddin, a resident of the area. 

Local sources said that Nahida fell in a pond next to the house around 12 pm while her family members were unaware of it.

Sensing the matter, the family members rescued her and took to Parshuram Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the child dead.

On the other hand, another child drowned in another pond in Parshuram Upazila of the district on Thursday morning.

The incident took place in North Guthuma Village of the upazila at around 9 am.

The deceased was identified as Mehraj Habib Tasif, 02, son of expatriate Ali Ahmed, a resident of the area. 

It was known that Mehraj Habib Tasif was playing near the house in North Guthuma Village in the morning. At one stage, he fell in a pond behind the house at around 9 am while his mother was busy with households' chores.
 
Later on, the child was rescued and immediately taken to Parshuram Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. 

Dr Mahfuzur Rahman, physician of the emergency department at Parshuram Upazila Health Complex, confirmed the incidents, adding that both of the children had died before being brought to the hospital.

CUMILLA: Two minor children drowned in the floodwater in Laksam Upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The incident took place in Aushpara area under Mudafarnogor North Union of the upazila in the afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Shahana Akter, 12, daughter of Hannan Munsi of Raghurampur area in Shaharasti Upazila of Chandpur District, and Aris, 5, son of Emran Hossain of Barura Upazila.

Shahana's grandfather Rashed Bhuiyan said that they along with the two deceased and family members went to a boat trip in the flood-hit area under the upazila in the afternoon. On the way, when they reached Bhuiyan Bari area, the boat capsized and the duo drowned there.

Later on, locals discovered them floating and recovered the bodies.

Laksam Police Station Inspector Tomas Barua confirmed incident, adding that they have heard the news and efforts are underway to know the details.

KALAPARA, PATUAKHALI: A one-and-a-half-year-old minor child drowned in a pond in Kalapara Upazila of the district on Monday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Shoyeb, son of Kazi Nazmul Ahsan Mithu, a resident of Kazi Nazrul Islam Road under Kalapara Municipality.

It was known that the child fell down into a pond next to their house while he was playing on its bank along with other children in the afternoon.

Sensing the matter, the family members rescued him and took to Kalapara Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the boy dead.
